days 13-16....

day 13... reminds you of childhood.

When I was a newborn, in Germany, I had thrush. My mother told me I cried and cried and cried. I had trouble eating and sleeping because the rash was so terrible. The neighbor ladies all spoke only German and my mother did not. They didn't understand why I cried so much but one of them gave me the doll with the blonde hair. She is hard plastic with ball joints and elastic that runs through her body to connect her arms , legs and head. She is 43 years old. Her dress is torn at the neck line, her hair is no longer soft and there are stains on her  face. A long, long time ago she had ruffled bottoms that matched her dress. I do not remember when they were lost. My parents moved often and when they divorced most of our belongings were in storage. My father, for reasons unknown to me, refused to pay to have our things from storage shipped to us. As a result I have very few of the treasures of my first ten years. This doll is one of them. The Holly Hobby in her arms is not my original, mine was twelve or eighteen inches tall. I wore out three of them that I can remember. Holly Hobby was my lovey. I slept with her, I played with her, she went everywhere with me. I do not have any of the ones from my childhood. One Saturday morning I was at a yard sale and saw this six inch Holly and had to have her. The little girl who gave her up only asked a quarter for her. She is worth so much more.

day 7...

high angle...

oops, I definitely thought I was suppose to be shooting low angle. Patrick and I got up early on Sunday morning and headed out on our bikes to the community center. Our neighborhood hosted a Triathlon. We had never watched one and thought it might be fun. It was also something to take pictures of. I spent the morning focusing on low angle shots. For some reason even though the list clearly says HIGH angle I had low in my brain. I took many. The ones above are just a few. I was crouched down low taking the picture of the helicopter when the pilot offered to take my picture inside his helicopter.... uh, NO, thanks. The race was fun to watch but by 8:30 it was already in the 90s so we headed home to a breakfast of blueberry pancakes and coffee. After a long day relaxing poolside I checked my project list and realized my mistake. Too late to grab another shot I uploaded what I had and in the end found one photo taken from atop a hill in the front of our community of the swim portion of the Triathlon. Not the most interesting high angle but a shot that met the definition of the assignment.

day 6...

books.

Patrick and I have many many books. Unfortunately most of them are still in boxes. We are going to have custom book cases built in our new home but that project is not finished yet so I photographed just one book today. I had my last blog, A Year in Pictures, made into a book. The blog was a 365 blog that took much more than a year to complete. I then spent many more months editing the layout of the book I made through Blurb. It turned out better than I had imagined. Not only does it chronicle my growth that first year ( and a bit more) of photography but it is also a scrapbook of memories filled with photos of the people, places and things I love.

day 5...

breakfast.

I am not much of a breakfast person. I usually have a cup of coffee or two. It is hard to tell you how much coffee I have because I rarely drain the mug. Usually I drink it so slowly that I just keep topping it off to keep it warm. This was suppose to be Patrick's coffee mug for work. We bought it at First Sunday in Annapolis. He doesn't use it so now it is mine. Honestly it is my favorite of the three mugs I do use. I love the weight of it and the shape fits very nicely in my hands.

day 4...

clouds.

Houston is flat, really flat. When the sky is clear and their aren't buildings to block the view you can see clouds stretching all the way across the sky until they touch the horizon line way off in the distance. I am not a good judge of distance but I'll bet we can see a mile. We have been able to stand in our back yard and see a huge stretch of sky through the gap between our neighbors house and the next house down. Not for long. On Monday they poured the foundation for a new house on that empty lot, When I took this photo they were framing the second floor and by tonight (Friday) it will be completely framed (roof and all) and the plywood will be up.

day 2...

your favorite shoes.

I have a lot of shoes. These are my newest. They are called Ssekos. I love the creative aspect of these sandals. The shoes themselves are a bottom with 5 loops into which you put the straps in any configuration you can imagine. Definitely check out the website to see some of the different ways they show you to tie them. I bought them with brown straps but promptly made 9 more sets of straps from fabrics I have in my stash.  I have been seriously considering a 30 days of SSekos photography challenge.
